BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior
Matt Rogers was named the Patriot League GEICO Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Rogers recorded a team-leading 20 points on Dec. 13 against VMI, shooting 7-of-12 from field to help American win 69-61 and capture its eighth straight victory. He added three rebounds, two assists and a career-high two blocks to his stat line, and his 20-point game marks his eighth game scoring in double figures this season.
The junior is second in the Patriot League and 17th in NCAA Division 1 in field goal percentage (63.4). His weekly award marks his first of the season.
This week marks the second-straight week an Eagle has been named the league's player of the week and Rogers is the third Eagle to receive a Patriot League weekly award this season. Junior
Johnny O'Neil was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Dec. 12 and freshman
Geoff Sprouse was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Dec. 22 for a 1 p.m. game against Siena in search of their ninth straight win.
