HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army had the first shot of the game in the sixth minute but the shot was blocked.
- Sophomore Dilane Zouantcha had American's first shot of the game in the seventh minute. The shot was on target but stopped by Army's goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless 0-0.
- The two sides stayed in a defensive stalemate until freshman Troy Elgersma broke though, off an assist by senior Jack Green, in the 43rd minute to put American up 1-0 just two minutes before the end of the first half.
- American opened up the second half with back-to-back shots from sophomore Zemi Rodriguez and Dilane Zouantcha. Rodriguez's shot was blocked and Zouantcha's was off target and to the right.
- The Black Knight's equalized in the 68th minute to put the game at 1-1.
- Army had a great chance to take the lead in the 77th minute but freshman Matthew Tibbetts made the save to keep the game scoreless.
- Army had one last chance in regulation in the 89th minute but the shot was high and over the top of the box to send the game into overtime.
- Junior Robbie Matei had the lone shot of the first 10-minute overtime period but the shot went high to keep the game tied 1-1 heading into the second overtime period.
- It was American who broke through in the 101st minute off of senior Mattias Cooper's goal to put the Eagles ahead 2-1.
- Two minutes later, it was sophomore Leo Palomo who extended American's lead in the 103rd minute to secure the 3-1 win and upset to advance to the Patriot League Tournament Championship game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- American held the 15-12 shot advantage as well as the 7-6 shots on goal advantage.
- Both sides were equal in corners, 8-8.
