BALTIMORE - Two very close sets both fell the way of Loyola Maryland, and the Greyhounds then took the third as well to hand American University volleyball a 3-0 loss on the road by scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-12. The Eagles have five Patriot League matches remaining, including three at home.

NOTABLE

• Freshman Adelina Berisha led AU with 11 kills, and senior Rachael Bennett posted 11 digs.
• Seniors Inbal Peleg and Zeynep Uzen recorded 10 digs each.
• Graduate student Carlie Fikse hit .333 with six kills, and Esma Sipahi led AU with 24 assists.
• The loss was the fourth in a row for American, and the Eagles now stand at 12-12 overall and 4-7 in the PL.
• Loyola Maryland improves to 9-10 overall and 7-5 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Greyhounds got the upper hand early with a 7-3 lead in the first set, but AU battled back to tie at 10-10.
• Six ties followed as the set stayed neck-and-neck towards the end, but the Greyhounds posted a block and a kill as the final two points to break a 23-23 tie and give Loyola Maryland a 25-23 win.
• The second set was the tightest with 12 ties and six lead changes, and looked at times like it could go either way. It nearly did go the Eagles' way as they battled back from a 22-18 deficit to take a 24-23 lead, but the Greyhounds then strung together three straight kills to hand AU a 26-24 loss.
• Loyola Maryland ran away with it in the third set, out-hitting American .467 to .107 and winning 25-12.
