Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls on Sunday 1-0 to Boston U.

BOSTON, Mass. – American University men's soccer (6-4-5, 3-2-2 Patriot League) dropped a tough game, 1-0, Sunday afternoon to the Boston University Terriers (5-4-6, 3-1-3). The Eagles now move into third in the Patriot League standings with 11 points.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • Sophomore Dominic Dominguez made his seventh start in goal Sunday afternoon picking up three saves.
  • Freshman Troy Elgersma made his sixth collegiate start and first in Patriot League play.
  • The Eagles now move to 6-4-5 overall and 3-2-2 in Patriot League play. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • American drew a corner kick early in the game looking for an early opportunity to take the lead, but the corner was unsuccessful and the game remained tied early.
  • Boston U. had its first corner of the game a few minutes later but the kick and the follow-up shot were both off target.
  • Senior Jack Green had a chance for American to take the lead in the 26th minute but his cross was just a little off target and the score remained 0-0.
  • Boston U. fired off a shot, a header, in the 29th minute, but Dominguez was there to make the save and keep the game scoreless for the rest of the first half.
  • Junior Robbie Matei had a chance at the start of the second half to break the scoreless draw but his shot was blocked.
  • Boston U. took a 1-0 lead on an American own goal in the 80th minute.
  • Senior Mattias Cooper had the final attempt for the Eagles to even the score in the final seconds of the game, but his shot went high over the top of the goal as the game went final.  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Matei, Cooper and junior Cooper Nunn all registered a shot for American.
  • Two yellow cards were handed out in the game, both to American.
  • Boston U. held the 10-3 shot advantage as well as the 6-4 corner kick advantage. The Terrier defense held American to no shots until the second half.
UP NEXT
  • American returns home on Saturday, Oct. 29 to take on Lafayette for senior day and the final regular season game at Reeves.
  • They will then travel to Annapolis, Md. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. for a 7 p.m. game against the Midshipmen.
