Dominguez Picks Up Third Clean Sheet in Men's Soccer 0-0 Draw with Holy Cross

WASHINGTON –American University men's soccer (5-3-5, 3-1-2 Patriot League) battled to a  0-0 draw with the Holy Cross Crusaders (4-7-3, 0-4-2 Patriot League) Saturday afternoon at Reeves. Sophomore Dominic Dominguez recorded his third clean sheet of the season and American picked up a point in Patriot League play.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • With the Eagles picking up a point in league play, they now have 11 points and sit in second in the Patriot League standings behind Army West Point.
  • Dominguez picked up his third shutout of the season and fifth of his career.
  • Graduate student Jerry Zouantcha and sophomore Dilane Zouantcha each totaled a team-leading three shots. All of Dilane Zouantcha's shots were on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holy Cross and American traded shots to start the game, both being scooped up by the opposing sides goalkeeper.
  • Dilane Zouantcha followed up the back-to-back shots with a shot of his own that was also stopped by the Crusader's goalkeeper.
  • American fired off two more shots to Holy Cross's one shot in the first half but none found the back of the net as the game headed into halftime tied 0-0.
  • The Eagles came out of the half strong, taking back-to-back shots to try to break the tie early in the second half but both were stopped.  
  • American continued to fire shots at the Crusader's net, holding the 7-2 shot advantage for the rest of the half.
  • The home team's best chance of the game came in the 83rd minute when it looked as if American had found a way through the Crusader's defense and into the back of the net, but the Eagles were called offsides.
  • Jerry Zouantcha took one more last chance shot in the final seconds of the game, but his shot was wide and to the left to end the game in a 0-0 draw

UP NEXT
  • American will close out nonconference action on Tuesday at Delaware. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
  • The Eagles will then step back into Patriot League play on the road at Boston U. on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
