#25 Field Hockey Falls to Boston University

WASHINGTON – Through the wind and the rain on Saturday, the visiting Terriers of Boston University (5-6, 3-0 PL) out weathered and outlasted the #25 American University field hockey team (6-4, 2-1 PL) to defeat the Eagles 2-1. American's lone goal came from a Federica Turina Dellamaggiore solo effort after a scuffle in front of the goal in the third period.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • Turina Dellamaggiore's goal puts her at seven for the season, tied for the team lead with Charllene Boshoff.
  • Seven different Eagles recorded shots on goal in the game.
  • This is American's first Patriot League loss since the shortened 2020 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nothing was going for either team in the first quarter, despite good possession on both sides.
  • The Terriers attacked first in the game, just before halftime in the 28th minute to take the 1-0 edge into the break.
  • Only three minutes on the other side of the half, Turina Dellamaggiore capitalized on chaos in the circle after an American corner. After Boshoff's shot was saved and deflected back out, the sophomore from Argentina snuck her shot into the back of the goal to put AU level at 1-1.
  • Ninety seconds later in the 34th minute, BU charged forward again and outnumber American in their defensive third to score and retake the lead, 2-1.
  • Despite two penalty corners and three shots for the Eagles in the final three minutes of the game, nothing got past the Terrier's keeper senior, Caroline Kelly.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
