WASHINGTON - The final meet of the 2020-21 season will take American University men's and women's swimming and diving to Bucknell University for a Patriot League Challenge tri-meet. The Eagles will compete on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 against both the host Bison and Loyola Maryland.
MEET INFO
- The site of the two-day meet will be the Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.
- Each session will be broadcast live on ESPN+ (see complete schedule below).
- The Patriot League Challenge meet is closed to all spectators due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols.
- Prelims both days will begin at 10 a.m. for swimming and 1 p.m. for diving.
- Finals in all events will begin both days at 6 p.m.
OPPONENT INFORMATION
- The Bison women finished their regular season with a 3-0 record after a 188-112 victory over Loyola Maryland on April 10. They won 11 individual events and one relay, with Maddie Hartigan winning three races. She was tabbed Patriot League Swimmer of the Week for her efforts.
- Dating back to the 2018-19 campaign, Bucknell's women's team has posted an incredible 21-2 (16-2 PL) record in dual meets, with both losses coming to reigning Patriot League champion Navy.
- The Bucknell men's team finished its regular season with a 1-2 record following its 203-97 loss to Loyola Maryland on April 10. Will Cadwallader was a standout performer for Bucknell, winning the 3-meter dive with a program top-10 mark and taking second on the 1-meter board.
- The Bison placed fourth at the 2020 Patriot League Championships with 342.5 points.
- The Loyola women stand at 4-4 in dual meets this season, most recently falling to Bucknell, 188-112, on April 10.
- At the 2020 Patriot League Championships, the Greyhound women finished sixth with 302 points.
- On the men's side, Loyola stands at 5-3 after beating Bucknell on April 10.
- The Greyhound men's team took third at the 2020 Patriot League Championships, their best finish at a conference meet since joining the Patriot League ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
THE EAGLES IN 2020-21
- American last competed in the April Pools Virtual Meet on April 2-3, with the men placing fifth of six teams and the women placing sixth.
- The men's team has one dual meet victory this season in a virtual meet against Holy Cross on March 13.
- The breakout performer of the year has been freshman Mimi Watts of the women's team, who has set school and pool records in both the 100 and 200 butterfly.
- The men's team got a pair of strong races out of freshman Caled Farris at their most recent meet. He placed fourth in the 50 free in 21.24 which ranks as the 12th-fastest personal best in program history, and he placed sixth in the 100 free in 46.88.
- This weekend's meet, which is replacing the Patriot League Championships, will be the final meet for seniors Alex Feys, Natalie Hamlet, Ellie Kight, Abby Longstaff and Liam Riebling.
