WASHINGTON - American University men's and women's swimming & diving competed in an unusual way on March 13 with a virtual meet against Patriot League foe Holy Cross. The Eagles swam the entire meet in Frailey Pool at the Reeves Aquatic Center at 9:30 a.m., while the Crusaders competed in the exact same lineup of events in Worcester, Mass. a few hours later. The Eagles picked up a win on the men's side, 175-104, while the women fell just short at 160-139.
NOTABLE WOMEN'S RESULTS
- For the second meet in a row, freshman Mimi Watts put up the women's top times. She bested her own top-16 personal record in the 100 fly, winning in a time of 56.39., more than three seconds faster than second place. She now holds the sixth-best PR in that event in AU program history.
- Watts also set a top-16 time in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 58.46 which ranks 14th among personal records at AU. In total, Watts picked up four victories, also winning the 100 free and the 200 medley relay.
- That 200 medley relay team, made up of Watts, Abby Longstaff, Kenzie Cresci and Mallory Meister, won with a time of 1:51.03.
- Longstaff was an individual winner in the 50 free (25.36) and Ellie Kight won the 500 free in 5:22.83.
- Another multiple-event winner on the women's side was Kayla Winters who took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.32) and 200 individual medley (2:12.10).
NOTABLE MEN'S RESULTS
- Liam Riebling was a four-time winner for the men, including victories in three individual events. He won the 200 fly in 1:57.05, the 100 fly in 52.34 and the 200 individual medley in 2:04.15.
- Riebling was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team along with Aldrich Elvambuena, Will Deitch and Caleb Farris.
- Farris individually swept the 100 and 200 freestyle events in 47.60 and 1:45.50, respectively.
- Likewise, Elvambuena swept the 100 and 200 backstroke in 54.48 and 2:03.08.
- Nick Buckley took a win in the 50 free in 22.17, and teamed up with Elvambuena, Joe Melin and Kyle Silbert for a win in the 200 free relay.
- Will Timme was a winner in the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.10, and Jonathan Quick took a win in the 500 free in 5:02.69.
UP NEXT
- The next meet currently scheduled for the Eagles is the Patriot League Championship, set for April 21-24 at Bucknell.
