RENO, Nev. - The highlight of the day for American University wrestling at the Reno Tournament of Champions was a sixth-place finish for freshman Max Leete at 125 pounds. Leete reached his bout limit of six prior to being able to wrestle for fifth place.

Notable

• Leete's record was an impressive 5-1 for the day and included a major decision victory and a pin in the consolation round of four to advance to the fifth-place match.
• Unfortunately, Leete's six prior bouts were the limit and he earned sixth place by default. He now stands at 13-4 for the season.
• One of Leete's victories was after an intense battle with teammate Andy Fallon in the consolation round of eight. The two wrestled into the second tiebreaker, and it was only Leete's point for riding time that broke a 2-2 tie.
• Freshman Antonio Segura (157) had an outstanding day as well, going 5-1, but his day started in the round of 64 and he reached his six-bout limit after the consolation round of eight. He had won four bouts in a row at that point, including a major decision over Oregon State's Cael Brunson.
• Heavyweight Isaac Righter had a strong start to his day with a pin in 58 seconds and another in 28 seconds which ranks as the fastest for any AU wrestler so far this season. But Righter ran up against strong competition from Oregon State (#10 Gary Traub) and Oklahoma State and dropped his next two bouts.
• Patrick Ryan (149) was 4-2 overall including a pin of teammate Ryan Zimmerman and a technical fall vs. Montana-Northern's Colin Silverthorn. He ultimately fell in the consolation round of four.
