INSIDE THE SERIES
  • American won the first two meetings in the series in 2007 and 2008 but has dropped the last three meetings, including most recently on Dec. 21, 2019.
  • Stony Brook overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to top the Eagles in Bender Arena two years ago.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American is looking for its first win since Nov. 12 when they head to Long Island to face Stony Brook. After going 2-0 to start the season, AU has dropped five straight, including three losses of 22 points or more.
  • Last time out, the Eagles had their best offensive performance of the season against Duquesne, but the Dukes proved too much in the second half, securing an 88-79 win in Pittsburgh.
  • Colin Smalls had the best performance of his young career on Sunday against the Dukes. He had career-bests in points (22) and assists (7), going 10-of-12 from the field in the process. He was confident going to the rack and crisp with his passes out to the perimeter. His development as the lead guard will be crucial to American's success heading into Patriot League play.
  • Matt Rogers has played well on the offensive end of the floor in three straight games. He matched his then career-high in points against Western Carolina, before setting a new career-high in points the very next game against UMBC (14) in his first career start. After missing his first five shots on Sunday, he went 6-of-7 in the second half to finish with 12 points.
  • Through the first month of the season, American has been dealing with the injury bug. Valuable contributors Christian Lorng and Ben Lubarsky have yet to suit up this season, while Connor Nelson and Josh Alexander have both missed games this season already. American has employed three different starting fives through seven games.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT STONY BROOK
  • Stony Brook is set to open a six-game homestand against the Eagles on Wednesday night. The Seawolves will remain on Long Island until Dec. 22 when they travel to face No. 14 Florida.
  • Last time out, Stony Brook used a strong first half performance to outlast preseason Ivy League favorite Yale on Sunday afternoon, 85-81. Frankie Policelli led the way with a career-high 22 points.
  • The 85 points scored were the most as a team since the squad scored that exact number on February 6, 2019. Stony Brook also hit 11 triples against the Bulldogs, the first time hitting more than 10 3-pointers since March 7, 2020.
  • For the first time since the leadup to the 2015-16 season, the Stony Brook men's basketball program was selected to win the league by the America East's 10 head coaches. Elijah Olaniyi was named preseason All-Conference after transferring back to Stony Brook after spending a season with Miami (Fla.). He is one of four transfers for the Seawolves.
