Men’s Basketball Falls to Georgetown

WASHINGTON – American University men's basketball scared Georgetown on Tuesday night, trailing by only three points with 15:04 to play. But a second-half surge by the Hoyas that saw them put together an 18-0 run doomed any chance for an upset as Georgetown pulled away to win, 79-57.

  • Stacy Beckton Jr. continued his hot start to the season, pacing American with 16 points and four rebounds.

  • Colin Smalls nabbed one of his two steals on the night before feeding Elijah Stephens for a nice layup to cut the deficit to three at 44-41 with 15:04 to play.
  • Georgetown then took control of the game, eventually scoring 18 straight points to put the game out of reach at 71-45 with 7:06 remaining.
