Men’s Soccer Extends Win Streak to Three in 2-1 Victory at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – American University men's soccer picked up its first overtime victory of the season and extended its win streak to three games on Saturday afternoon against Bucknell.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • David Coly assisted on both goals against the Bison, extending his point streak to six games.
  • Robbie Matei and Ethan Boyle both picked up their second goals of the season.
  • The last time AU ran off a three-game winning streak was in 2016 as the Eagles topped Holy Cross, Lehigh and Bucknell from Oct. 30 to Nov. 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just over six minutes into the match, Coly weaved into the box, drawing the attention of the Bison defense, before Matei stepped into a shot and placed the ball inside the near post for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Dominic Dominguez picked up two saves to keep the Bison scoreless through the first 45 minutes.
  • In the 65th minute, Bucknell found the back of the net thanks to the first career goal for Gabe Dahlin.
  • The Bison goal stopped a 245-minute scoreless streak for Dominguez to open his career.
  • Lorenzo Gordon came off the bench to finish the game between the pipes and didn't allow a goal during 28 minutes of action.
  • The Eagles had seven corner kicks in the second half but weren't able to find the back of the net.
  • In the 97th minute, American finally found the game-winner.
  • Coly made a run into the box and had an initial shot blocked at the near post before Boyle fired a shot off the rebound to give AU the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • This is the first time American has beaten Bucknell since Nov. 11, 2016, a 2-1 double-overtime win in the Patriot League semifinals.
  • The Eagles were pushing forward all afternoon, placing eight of their 13 shots on target and drawing nine corner kicks.
  • Coly placed all five of his shots on goal.
