Eagle Exclusive with Men's Basketball's Scott Greenman

Our new "normal" is anything but. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, our lives have changed in ways big and small. Everyone has a story to tell, and since we can't be together during this time, our "Eagle Exclusive" series will help us gain insight into the current lives of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. This week's Eagle Exclusive, presented by DC Trails, features assistant coach Scott Greenman of AU Men's Basketball.

1) Tell us a little about your life right now. Where are you located? Who are you with? How do you spend your time?

I'm living in Falls Church, Va., cooped up in the house with my wife Caitlin and our 3 kids (Jordan – 5, Brayden and Eli – 22 months).  So far my time has been spent trying to balance chasing my kids around the house like a complete maniac while continuing to work efficiently (Facetiming/Zooming with our players, watching film, making phone calls, attending virtual professional development clinics).

2) What are the biggest day-to-day challenges you face?

My wife and I both work full-time and are trying to take care of 3 kids simultaneously, so the biggest challenges involve time management. We're constantly rearranging schedules and working as flexibly as possible so that we can help each other and cover for each other when needed. We also want to make sure our kids are stimulated and are getting all of the attention they need, so coming up with activities and things for them to do keeps us busy. On that note, I never in my life imagined I'd be so excited and get so much joy out of simply getting outside and going for a walk. Haha.

3) What do you most look forward to doing when the crisis eventually passes?

During times like these, you realize how lucky you are and how you take simple things for granted. I really look forward to the old day-to-day things that we didn't think twice about before - seeing and hanging out with our team, colleagues, friends, and family. Obviously, I'm anxious and excited to get back on the court with our team! And things like sitting in a coffee shop, taking my kids out for ice cream (that's more of a selfish activity for me), going to the South Jersey shore to visit family in the summer - walking on the boardwalk, playing mini golf, etc., are all activities I'm excited for when it's been proven safe to do so.

4) Has the time at home brought any positives to your life?

The biggest positive is the extended time I've been able to spend with my family. It goes without saying that life has slowed down a lot, and to a certain extent, that is a good thing. This is literally (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event, so trying to find the positives is important – and having this much quantity (and sometimes quality, haha) time with my family has been great. Especially seeing the twins (22 months old) this much, since they're at an age where they're changing, growing, and learning new things very rapidly! They were barely crawling when the quarantine began two months ago and now they're doing the Toosie Slide and can dunk on a regulation 10 foot basket.

5) Have you picked up any new skills, hobbies or new interests in your time at home?

Naturally, I've been watching The Last Dance on ESPN. I'm really good at Chutes and Ladders, and my coloring skills have really sharpened – you should see how well I stay within the lines!

6) What's your top moment from your time at AU?

Winning the Patriot League Championship!
