Women's Basketball Falls to Early Deficit at Bucknell

WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team (6-9, 2-3 PL) couldn't find its footing offensively on Wednesday, falling to undefeated Bucknell (12-4, 5-0 PL), 68-43, in Lewisburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Kaitlyn Marenyi led the team with a 16-point effort, followed by sophomore Maddie Doring who tied her season-high with 10.
  • Freshman Karla Vres brought down a team-high seven boards while sophomore Emily Fisher dished out a team-high four assists while picking up three steals.
  • Bucknell was led by 16 points from Ellie Mack. Abby Kapp and Tessa Brugler also landed in double-figures with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.
  • Mack also closed with a game-high eight rebounds.
  • The Eagles struggled to find its rhythm against the Bison defense, falling to an 16-7 deficit by the end of the first stanza behind baskets from Marenyi, sophomore Emily Fisher, and junior Indeya Sanders.
  • Shooting woes continued into the second quarter as the Bison continued to spread the gap with a 9-2 run to build the gap to 16.
  • A three from Marenyi ended the drought, but unanswered Bucknell trey's closed the half at 35-16 for one of AU's largest deficits of the season.
  • The Eagles began to pick up the tempo in the third quarter, nearly keeping pace with the Bison with a 14-10 stanza, but Bucknell continued to build the lead at 49-26 by the end of the quarter.
  • Marenyi and Doring took charge of AU's offensive efforts down the stretch, with Doring hitting seven of her final 10 points and Marenyi picking up six.
