Noor Coenen Involved in Both Goals in a 2-1 Field Hockey Win vs. JMU

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The American University field hockey team has had James Madison's number over the past few years, and the trend continued with a 2-1 victory for the Eagles (2-3) over the Dukes (2-3) in a neutral-site game at Maryland on Friday night. Junior Noor Coenen was involved in both goals for AU, finishing with three total points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Eagles got on the scoreboard early, netting a goal on their first penalty corner and first shot of the game in the sixth minute of action.
  • Sophomore Josie Formica got the goal off the corner, assisted by Coenen.
  • With just under four minutes remaining until halftime, Coenen scored the game-winner on a penalty stroke.
  • At the break, AU led JMU 9-3 in total shots, with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal after dominating offensively.
  • The third quarter saw neither team register a shot on goal with both defenses holding strong.
  • With just four minutes remaining, JMU got its lone goal of the game in a 1v1 situation with Eveline Zwager drawing out AU goalkeeper Fiona Minter.
  • Minter finished with two saves in the contest, while Caitlin Nelson made five saves for JMU.

HEAR FROM COACH JENNINGS

"We are very happy to come away with the win tonight against a tough JMU team. Our first half featured some great passing sequences and allowed us to get to a strong position at the half. Unfortunately, we lost some momentum in the second half but our defense was so strong tonight and that was the difference maker in the end."

UP NEXT

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 15, facing Towson in another neutral-site game in College Park. The action is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
