WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - With a 5-1 record for the day, sophomore
Ben Root placed fifth in the 174-pound weight class at the 87th annual Wilkes Open. Competed unattached as a redshirt, junior
Colin Shannon placed sixth.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Root had an outstanding four wins by fall en route to his 5-1 finish. In the fifth-place match he came up against teammate Shannon and earned a fall in 1:15.
- After falling in his opening bout, Shannon won four straight including one by fall and two major decisions before coming up against Root.
- Eight Eagles in total competed at the meet, representing six weight classes.
- Freshman Josh Vega (125) had an impressive day, picking up three wins including a pin in his fourth bout of the day.
- Redshirt freshman Tim Fitzpatrick went 2-2 at 165 pounds.

- AU will be back in action on Sunday-Monday, Dec. 29-30 at the 57th annual Midlands Championships in Chicago.
