WASHINGTON - The American University volleyball team gets its first rematch with Navy since the Midshipmen ended the Eagles' season a year ago with a tight, 3-2 victory in the Patriot League Championship game. The Eagles (10-7, 3-1) will host Navy (7-7, 2-1) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Bender Arena.
AU NOTES
- AU has won three straight and ranks second in the Patriot League with a 3-1 record.
- The Eagles trail only Colgate after a road loss to the Raiders in the PL opener on Sept. 27.
- Since then, AU has been nearly perfect, winning 3-1 at Army West Point and earning 3-0 sweeps of both Lehigh and Bucknell last weekend.
- Freshman Onuchi Ndee leads all players in the league with her .375 hitting percentage, and senior Kristen Largay's 4.51 digs per set rank third.
- Largay is on pace to set the all-time program record in digs. With 266 digs this season, she stands at 1,758 digs in her career and needs just 107 more to tie the all-time school record of 1,865 digs set by Natasha Sylvain in 1994.
- Helena Elbaek leads AU with 3.53 kills per set which ranks her sixth in the PL.
- Junior Olivia Wassner leads the PL in service aces, averaging .57 per set, which also ranks her seventh in NCAA Division I.
- With 126 service aces already this season, AU ranks fourth among all teams in NCAA Division I with 2.00 aces per game.
NAVY NOTES
- Navy dropped its first Patriot League game of the season in five sets at Army West Point, but rebounded with 3-0 sweeps of both Holy Cross and Lehigh.
- Maddi Sgattoni leads the Midshipmen with 3.37 kills per set, with Amanda Montag close behind at 3.16 kills per set.
- Navy played some big names in the non-conference season including #24 Michigan, Alabama and West Virginia.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- The all-time series between AU and Navy is heavily skewed in the the Eagles' favor at 45-4, and included a 24-match win streak from 2006-16.
- In Bender Arena, AU owns a 22-1 record vs. Navy since joining the Patriot League in 2001, with last year's tournament final defeat ending a 22-match win streak for the Eagles.Â
- The regular season meetings in 2018 had both gone AU's way, one a five-set home win and the other a sweep in Annapolis.
