FAIRFAX, Va. – Scott Callander finished second in the men's 100-yard butterfly and Fiona Caulfield placed second in the women's 1-meter diving competition to post American University's best finishes Friday at the Patriot Invitational swimming and diving meet hosted by George Mason.

Callander swam 49.05 in Friday night's final, finishing just behind Philip Adejumo of UMBC, who won the event in 48.94. Callander went a career-best 49.00 in the morning prelims.

Caulfield scored 241.85 points in the final, moving from fourth in the preliminaries to second on the 1-meter board. Victoria Moretti of Florida Atlantic won the 1-meter competition with 252.90 points.

The AU women's team remained in eighth place in the team standings following the second of the three days of competition. UNC Wilmington led with 613 points, with Drexel in second at 543.5.

American was seventh in the men's team standings, which were led by Drexel (567.5) and UNC Wilmington (538.5).

Freshman Lily Koenig also qualified for an 'A' final on Friday, placing fourth in the women's 100 backstroke. Her time of 56.48 in the final was a season-best by two seconds and moved her into fifth on AU's all-time top-16 list.

Abby Longstaff was 10th in the 100 back final at 57.81, moving into 10th on the AU list after qualifying 15th in prelims. Ellen Johnson hit the AU all-time list with a prelim mark of 59.38.

Three Eagles won 'C' finals on Friday evening. Freshman Alex Feys went 57.21 in the 100 fly to move into 13th all-time, while Ellie Kight won the consolation final in the 200 free at 1:54.51. Junior Sam Fromkin won the C final in the 400 individual medley in 4:08.24, easily posting the best mark this season for AU.

The final day of the meet hits the pool on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
