DOVER, Del. – For the 13th time this season, the American University volleyball faces a match away from Bender Arena when it travels Wednesday to face Delaware State in a 6 p.m. match.
The Eagles are 11-6 overall after winning five of their last six matches. AU opened conference play last weekend, sweeping both Bucknell and Lafayette.
American is road-tested, having played six road matches and six neutral-site matches so far. The Eagles are 4-2 so far in opponents' arenas.
Sophomore outside
Aleksandra Kazala leads the AU offense, averaging 4.31 kills per set. Her mark ranks second in the Patriot League, behind only Mandy Sifferien of Holy Cross (4.84 k/s).
The Eagles were especially strong on the service line last weekend, getting a 19-5 edge in service aces in their two matches. Freshman
Samantha Snyder had eight in the two matches, with fellow freshman
Kristen Largay getting five.
The Hornets come into Wednesday's match with an 0-13 overall record. DSU and AU have played one common opponent this season, with both teams having lost to Howard.
Junior outside Sabina Szmajduch leads Del State with 2.05 kills per set. Sophomore Gabriella Enriquez averages 6.05 assists per set.
The Eagles will travel directly from Wednesday's match to a pair of Patriot League matches this weekend.
American plays at Army West Point on Friday in a matchup to be broadcast on the American Sports Network. Both the Eagles and Black Knights are 2-0 so far in the PL, a half-game behind Lehigh.
American plays at Holy Cross (4-11, 0-2) on Saturday. AU's next home match is Friday, Oct. 7 against Lehigh.
