EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Adriana Hooks finished 36th in the women's race and Alaeldin Tirba was 54th for the men to lead American University runners to the line Friday at the Panorama Farms Invitational cross country meet hosted by the University of Virginia.
The Eagles placed ninth in the men's team standings, while the women were 11th. Each field included at least three nationally ranked teams.
Tirba finished the 8-kilometer course in 25:51.8 to lead AU, with
Ben Doiron (56th, 25:55.8) and
Liam Purdy (61st, 26:08.1) packing tightly.
Tommy Sommer was 77th in 26:40.5 with
Matthew Rainey just behind in 26:44.7.
Gerard D'Ambrosio was AU's other finisher, placing 92nd in 27:28.6.
Justyn Knight of Syracuse was the men's individual champion, going 23:13.9.
BYU edged Syracuse, 39-44, to win the men's team title, with Virginia in third at 82. The Eagles scored 281 to beat Appalachian State and Clemson, among other teams.
BYU also won the women's team competition, scoring just 47 points. SMU was second with 89 and Syracuse was third at 98. The Eagles finished with 340 points.
Regan Rome of William & Mary was the women's individual champion, finishing in 17:01.1.
American is next scheduled to compete on Saturday, Oct. 1 at George Mason.
