EMMITSBURG, Md. – Two-time defending individual champion Brendan Johnson will go for the three-peat on Friday as the 2016 cross country season begins at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals.
Johnson, now an Eagle senior, is the only male to repeat as champion on the men's side in this event since 2004. He led the AU men to the team title last season, as the Eagles swept all four opponents in the dual-meet scoring.
On the women's side,
Kassidy Ayres and
Adriana Hooks are now sophomores and return to the site of their strong collegiate debuts from a year ago. Ayres was fifth and Hooks was sixth overall, leading the Eagles to a third-place finish.
UMBC won the women's team title last year.
The men's race begins at 1 p.m., with the women's race to follow.
Other teams scheduled to compete are Franklin Pierce, George Washington, Maryland, Navy and UMBC.
