WASHINGTON — The American University men's basketball team heads up I-95 to the Empire State for a meeting with Army West Point on Sunday afternoon at noon on CBS Sports Network.

American is looking for its first Patriot League win of the season, while the Black Knights are looking to return to .500 in league play.

In its last meeting, American hosted Boston Univeristy and fell, 61-50, on Wednesday evening. Freshmen James Washington and Andrija Matic combined for 25 points. Washington's 15 led the Eagles in 37 minutes. Matic set a new best with 10 points off the bench on 4-of-8 shooting with six rebounds. American shot 35 percent from the field and made nine three-pointers.

Junior Jalen Rhea picked up his first collegiate start on Wednesday and set new highs in field goals attempted (9), steals (2) and minutes played (35). Rhea snapped an 0-for-13 drought from the outside with a pair against the Terriers.

SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT

A senior-heavy roster, Army West Point starts a five senior unit, but head coach Zach Spiker has been known to make mass substitutions early in the game. Each of the five senior starters have been instrumental to the team.

Point guard Dylan Cox is 21 assists shy of the program record. Kyle Wilson is fifth on the Academy scoring list and is the PL's highest active career scorer with 1,773. AU's Jesse Reed is second at 1,188, followed by Tanner Plomb at 1,153. Plomb leads the Army in points per game at 21.8. At center, Kevin Ferguson has a school record 184 blocks and leads the team in rebounds this season at 8.2 per game. Ferguson and Wilson also score in double figures.

The Blacks Knights are one of five original DI programs to have never reached the NCAA Tournament and is one of two schools from the Empire State to not qualify for the Field of 68. The other NY school is St. Francis Brooklyn. The Citadel, William & Mary and Northwestern round out the group.
