ANNAPOLIS, Md. – American University's strong freshman duo of Kassidy Ayres and Adriana Hooks finished second and third individually to lead Eagle finishers Saturday at the Salty Dog Invitational cross country meet, hosted by Navy.
On the men's side, junior
Brendan Johnson was ninth to lead AU runners to the line, as the Eagles placed third as a team in the Navy Invitational.
Ayres and Hooks, who were also in AU's first and second spots last Friday at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals, finished behind only George Washington sophomore Miranda DiBiaso.
Ayres completed the 6-kilometer course in 23:01.9, only 10 seconds behind the winner. Hooks finished in 23:07.2. The Eagles finished fourth as a team in the women's event, just one point behind Maryland.
Behind Johnson (25:16.6 over 8K), Eagle runners packed well in the middle of the field, putting five runners between 21st and 30th. American scored 84 points, behind Navy (25) and Georgetown (42).
American is scheduled to compete next on Oct. 2 at the Lehigh Paul Short Run and Oct. 3 at the Mason Invitational.
