FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior Kristyna Lindovska scored a pair of double-doubles to lead the American University to wins over Georgetown and George Mason Saturday in the D.C. Volleyball Challenge.

The Eagles (3-0) picked up a 25-12, 20-25, 25-20, 25-12 win over the Hoyas in the first match of the day, while sweeping the host Patriots, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17, in the title game.

Lindovska, who totaled 29 kills and 27 digs for the weekend, was selected as the tournament MVP. Meanwhile, sophomore Erin Swartz (15 kills, 15 blocks) and freshman Carmen Unzue (20 kills, 11 blocks) each earned all-tournament recognition.

In the first match of the day, American posted a dominant opening set, but fell behind against the Hoyas in set two. The Eagles pulled off a close win in the third set before concluding the match with another convincing win.

Lindovska was AU's top performer against the Hoyas, registering 13 kills and 12 digs. Swartz scored seven kills on 11 attempts without an error and recorded eight total blocks, while sophomore libero Hoakalei Dawson recorded a career-best 23 digs.

"Georgetown battled us hard," said American head coach Barry Goldberg. "They got hot today and started serving us tough. We responded by coming back after they put a little pressure on us."

"We were happy to get through it, but we know that we're going to have to handle pressure a little better as time goes on."

The Eagles concluded the day with three solid sets against the host Patriots, again led by Lindovska, who recorded 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior Sarah Katz added nine kills and 12 digs, while Dawson had a team-leading 13 digs.

"[After getting some rest this afternoon], we came out ready to play against George Mason," said Goldberg.

"We had great contributions from both of our middles (Swartz and Unzue).  It's nice to see two young players start the season out well. When we were in the preseason, our middles were a real question, but those two have really stepped up this weekend."

The Eagles have a significant challenge ahead of them, as they prepare to host fourth-ranked Florida Sunday at 4 p.m.

Florida enters Sunday's contest with a 1-0 record after earning a 3-0 win over James Madison this evening. Led by 17 kills from senior Ziva Recek, the Gators picked up 25-16, 32-30, 25-18 set wins over the Dukes.

The Gators, who return four All-Americans to their lineup this season, registered a 28-4 overall record in 2014 and a perfect 18-0 mark in SEC play. Florida, which made its 24th straight NCAA appearance, advanced to the NCAA Regional Final before falling to top-seed Stanford.

Opening serve for Sunday's match is scheduled for 4 p.m. The marquee event coincides with the celebration of AU's annual Bender Blue Out, where fans throughout the area are invited to pack the house. Prior to the contest, there will be an unveiling ceremony for the Eagles' 2014 Patriot League Championship.

"We've got our work cut out for us tomorrow," said Goldberg. "I think Florida is going to have their work cut out for them also. It should be a hard-working match and a lot of fun. I think our team will be ready for it."
