Volleyball Welcomes Four Newcomers in 2026

WASHINGTON - Just over a month away from the 2026 season, American University volleyball welcomes a talented group of four student-athletes to its roster. Freshmen Sam McMillan, Sydney Guerrier, and Gabby Vizek, along with senior transfer Olivia Miller all join the team this fall, as the Eagles and first-year head coach Jenny Glenn look to defend their Patriot League title and get back to the NCAA Tournament. 

“We are excited to add three freshmen and one transfer to the Eagles Volleyball family,” said Glenn. “This recruiting class is athletic and will provide us with depth and versatility in multiple positions. They already have a passion for American University and are committed to continuing to push this volleyball program forward.”

Sydney Guerrier

Sydney Guerrier
Position: Opposite Hitter/Setter
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Hollywood, Fla. 
High School: St. Thomas Aquinas

Guerrier comes to AU after a stellar high school career at St. Thomas Aquinas. A versatile player with the ability to play both setter and opposite, she racked up 450 assists, 380 kills, 237 digs, and 85 blocks across her four years, earning an AVCA All-American Second Team selection in 2025. Guerrier was voted the team’s Rookie of the Year after her freshman campaign, and she helped the Raiders to back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024.

Sam McMillan

Sam McMillan
Position: Outside Hitter
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Coral Springs, Fla.
High School: Coral Springs

McMillan joins Sophie Dufour, Salme Adeele Hollas, and Zedo Yilmaz to round out AU’s dynamic group of outside hitters. With proven ability to be a reliable two-way player, McMillan swung for 251 kills with a .335 hitting percentage in addition to 282 receptions at Coral Springs Charter High School. She’s an exciting addition to an attacking unit that dominated the Patriot League last year, posting a .292 hitting percentage.

Gabby Vizek

Gabby Vizek
Position: Middle Blocker
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Leesburg, Va. 
High School: Riverside

Vizek is a local player, making the short trip to D.C. from northern Virginia in her hometown of Leesburg. She enjoyed a dominant career at Riverside High School, where she etched her name in the team’s record book and proved to be one of the best players in the state. The middle blocker led Virginia Class 5 in blocks and hitting percentage, and finished third in kills. Vizek also set a Riverside single-season record with 96 blocks, and a single-game record with nine denials. She led the Rams to back-to-back state titles in 2024 and 2025, and will join All-Patriot League returners Prinzez Zeck and Elise Sterling up front for AU.

Olivia Miller

Olivia Miller 
Position: Defensive Specialist
Class: Senior
Hometown: Louisville, Ky. 
Previous School: Campbell

Miller adds depth and winning experience to AU’s defensive unit, as the senior makes the move to D.C. after three seasons at Campbell. She reached 253 career digs in 256 sets played, including a career-high 143 her sophomore year. She contributed to an NCAA Tournament berth for the Camels last year, appearing in 28 matches and recording 53 digs in support of a 23-7 season and a CAA championship.

What’s Ahead

The Eagles kick off the 2026 season with a home weekend, beginning with a matchup against Georgetown on Friday, Aug. 28, and Northwestern of the Big Ten steps foot in the Meltzer Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. AU has three power five opponents on the competitive 2026 slate before beginning Patriot League play on Sept. 18 against Holy Cross.
