Nick Regan finished 15th overall to lead American University to a sixth-place finish in the men's team standings Saturday at the Princeton Invitational cross country meet.
Regan's time of 24:34 was his best of the season at 8 kilometers. In fact, four of the Eagles' five runners each posted season-bests on the Princeton layout, including
Josh Ellis (21st, 24:41),
Tom Woermer (70th, 25:21) and
Peter Rowe (84th, 25:28).
Brendan Johnson was the third Eagle to the line at Princeton, placing 38th overall in 24:57.
Villanova won the men's team event with 45 points, putting its five runners in seventh through 11th. Virginia Tech was second with 71 points . American finished with 224 points to earn a solid sixth in the 37-team field.
Thomas Award of Penn won the individual title in 24:00, just one second better than Stuart Robertson of Virginia Tech.
The AU women and the rest of the men's team ran Saturday at the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette College.
Corina Velazco and
Julienne DeVita finished 3-4 overall and led five Eagles among the top 16 individuals as AU won the Division I scoring in the women's event.
Velazco covered the 6-kilometer course in 23:27.42, just 14 seconds ahead of DeVita.
The Eagles had 32 points in the D-1 scoring, ahead of Lafayette (45) and Seton Hall (51). Seton Hall freshman Christiana Rutkowski won the women's individual event in 22:58.4.
American also earned the top spot in the D-1 team scoring, finishing with 19 points.
The Eagles will be off from competition until Saturday, Nov. 1 when they compete in the Patriot League Championships, to be hosted by Lehigh.
