Box Score

The American University volleyball team fought back from two sets down to earn a 3-2 victory over Navy on Friday night.

Rebecca Heath led the Eagles with the double-double, tallying a season-high 17 kills with 11 digs. Kylann Scheidt also picked up the double-double on 39 assists and 14 digs. "We played two close games and we just made two many unforced errors in the first couple games," said Head Coach Barry Goldberg. "When we played game three we kept saying, play it like its game one. We came right out, started running it and controlling more of the rallies. One by one before we knew it we were into game five and just had good control of what we were doing. We didn't make that many unforced errors by the end and we had a lot of success so it was good."

American (11-7, 3-2) took a 6-1 lead to open the match before the Midshipmen were able to come back and tie it at 16 off a kill from Erin Fortner. The Eagles took a 22-18 lead on a kill from Hendrix, but the Midshipmen were able to shut down American's attack down the stretch and hold on for the 25-23 victory.

Navy (7-10, 3-2) bounced back from an early Eagles' lead in the second set with seven straight points to take an 8-6 lead. The match was tied five more times before the Midshipmen were able to take a 21-18 lead on a kill from Alex Cassel. American came within one, 24-23, before back-to-back kills by Navy gave them the 2-0 match advantage.

The Eagles never trailed in the third set, rolling to a 25-14 victory to prevent the sweep. American closed out the set with five consecutive tallies as Scheidt notched set point.

Navy held a 6-4 lead in the fourth set before American was able to tie it at six on an attack error from Olivia Yeager. The Midshipmen came back within two, 17-15, but American was able to hold off a comeback for the 25-21 set victory to tie the match at two.

The Eagles tied the set at two after an early Navy advantage and were able to take a five-point lead, 9-4, on a kill from Bree Scarbrough. American closed out the match with three consecutive points.
