Box Score The American University volleyball team was handed its first Patriot League loss Saturday afternoon as Lehigh swept the Eagles in straight sets (25-22, 25-14, and 25-23).
Morgan Hendrix led American (13-10, 6-1 PL) in kills with 10 as she recorded a team-best .500 hitting percentage. Kelly McCaddin was also productive on the attack with six kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and two blocks.
In the first set, American and Lehigh (13-7, 5-2 PL) went back and forth as there were 13 ties and three lead changes. In a 21-21 set, Lehigh responded with three straight points and eventually took the first set, 25-22. The Mountain Hawks then controlled the second set, 25-14, courtesy of their .370 team hitting percentage along with an 8-1 run midway through the set.
The Eagles led the third set, 19-17, before Lehigh went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead, 22-19, en route to the 25-23 victory.
For the match, the Mountain Hawks held a 40-35 advantage in kills. Defense was also key in controlling the net as Lehigh registered 10 total team blocks compared to American's 4.5.
