The American University men's basketball team will conclude its
regular season on Saturday, February 27, when it hosts Lafayette
live on CBS College Sports. Tipoff from Bender Arena is scheduled
for 4:00 p.m. American defeated Lafayette in the first meeting
between the teams this season, 76-66, marking the Eagles' 11th
straight victory over the Leopards. American is 25-16 all-time
against Lafayette and 16-5 since joining the Patriot League.
American currently sits in fifth place of the Patriot League
standings with a 6-7 conference record, one game behind
fourth-place Navy which is 7-6. An American win on Saturday coupled
with a Midshipmen loss would tie the two for fourth at 7-7 with the
Eagles owning the head-to-head tiebreaker after having swept the
season series. The top four teams from the regular season earn the
right to host the first round of the Patriot League Tournament.
The Eagles have now won two of their last three games after
defeating Navy on Wednesday night in double overtime, 80-77.
American tied the game at 72 at the end of the first overtime on a
Joe
Hill buzzer beater and then battled back from a
five-point deficit early in the second overtime to earn the
victory. Stephen
Lumpkins posted his sixth double-double of the season
with a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8-of-11 from
the field and 5-of-7 from the line. Vlad
Moldoveanu added 19 points and nine rebounds while Simon
McCormack notched a career-high 16 points with four
rebounds and three steals.
Saturday's game will be broadcast nationally on CBS College
Sports. Bob Socci will be on the call providing play-by-play and
will be joined courtside from Bender Arena by best-selling author
and Washington Post columnist John Feinstein.
