After picking up a 57-44 win at Albany Monday night, The American University men's basketball team will return to Bender Arena Wednesday, November 17 to face the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 7:30 p.m. American and UMES met for the first time last season with the Hawks earning a 65-58 victory in Princess Anne, Md.
American has opened the year with a pair of victories, marking just the second time under Head Coach Jeff Jones the Eagles have gone 2-0 to begin the season. American has never gone 3-0 under Jones and has not done so since the 1982-83 season when the Ed Tapscott '80 led Eagles finished the year 20-10 and advanced to the ECC Championship game.
Vlad Moldoveanu, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, has led American in scoring in each of the first two games and will enter play Wednesday averaging 17.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Troy Brewer has added 11.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg in his first two games as an Eagle while Stephen Lumpkins has notched 9.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg.
UMES will come to Bender Arena riding a two-game losing streak. The Hawks opened their season with a 91-62 loss to Tulane at home on Friday and fell at Columbia Monday night, 108-74. Senior Kevin White leads the team with 12.5 ppg and 6.0 apg with Dishawn Bradshaw chipping in 11.0 ppg. The Hawks have turned the ball over 32 times already this season and have allowed their opponents to shoot a combined 57.1 percent (68-119).
