Senior Kelsey Brasher scored two goals and junior Friederike Engel had a goal and an assist to lead the American University women's soccer team to a 3-0 home victory over Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles outshot Delaware State 41-3 in the match.

American (5-6) dominated the game from the outset, and was able to convert its first goal in the 39th minute. Sophomore Allison Slattery registered her first-career point when she fed a corner kick to Engel, who was slashing in front of the goal and beat Delaware State goalkeeper Brittany Curtis to her left.

The Eagles continued to control the action throughout the match and added their second goal in the 57th minute on a Brasher shot from long-range. Sophomore Gabrielle Barbato recorded her first-career point on the play with the assist.

Brasher scored her second goal of the match in the 68th minute off a corner kick opportunity. Junior Brooke Sheppard fired the corner kick in front of the net to Engel, who headed the ball to the goal scorer Brasher on a beautifully-executed play.

In the contest, the Eagles outshot Delaware State (1-8) by a 41-3 margin, including a 21-2 advantage in shots on goal. Brasher led American with 11 shots, five of which were on goal. Engel, seniors Erin Koch and Erin Stebbins, junior Patricia Bailey, and freshmen Carleigh Morba and Samantha Trotta each recorded two shots on goal for AU.

The goalkeeping trio of sophomore Arianna Efstathiou, junior Lindsey Farthing and freshman Mary Theresa Callahan recorded the shutout for American.

For Brasher, this was her fourth-career multi-goal performance. Her previous three, including a three-goal game against Manhattan, all took place during the 2007 season.

"Today was a strong performance for 90 minutes," remarked Head Coach David Bucciero in his live postgame interview on Eagles Vision TV. "It made a world of difference in how aggressive they were going at players and it led to a ton of corners, a ton of chances and then ultimately goals."

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m. as they welcome Patriot League foe Bucknell to Reeves Field for both teams' conference opener. The match can be watched live on Eagles Vision TV, which features multiple camera angles, a live scoreboard and analysis from a studio broadcast team and on-field reporters.
