WASHINGTON -- American women's soccer finished with its third tie on the season today after playing Colgate to a 2-2 draw. The Eagles move to 6-5-3 overall, 3-2-1 in Patriot League play. Seniors Diane Wootton (Damascus, Md./Middle Tennessee State) and Katie Moore (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) each netted goals for American.
American scored first less than ten minutes into the game on a Wootton shot into the left corner of the net on an assist by Moore from right field. Colgate responded when Kate Barrett took a pass from Sara Lappen and scored on a breakaway past American keeper Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock).
The score remained at 1-1 until almost the end of the second half. Moore scored on an unassisted shot into the upper right corner of the net at 83:24, but Colgate responded less than five minutes later as Allison Bernardi tied up the game at 2-2 to send the match into overtime play.
American outshot Colgate 19-14 and had four shots on goal in overtime compared to the Raiders' two shots. Raiders' keeper Kate Jassin had ten total saves while Liese finished with eight.
Today's tie brings the Eagles to 6-5-3 overall, 3-2-1 in the Patriot League. The league standings remain tight as American heads into its final inter-conference game next Saturday, Nov. 3, versus Lehigh at 1:00 p.m. They will play away at Princeton this week on Halloween night at 7:30 p.m.
