Michael Henchy

Michael Henchy, a former All-American and professional volleyball player, joined the American University staff as an assistant volleyball coach in May, 2019.

Henchy came to AU after two seasons as a graduate assistant coach with the Springfield College men's volleyball program. During his time at Springfield, the school won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2018 and was a semifinalist in 2019. Henchy was the Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2019 as selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

He was a two-year captain and four-year letterwinner at Ohio State (2012-15) and was an honorable mention All-American pick by the AVCA as a senior. He earned first team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors in his sophomore and senior seasons. He earned Academic All-MIVA honors in all four seasons.

As a player, Henchy was one of only 16 Buckeyes to reach 1,000 kills in his career (1,001), was 12th in attack attempts (2,263), 9th in aces (88) and 16th in points (1,213.5) on OSU's career lists.

He played one season as a professional in Lamia, Greece, before returning to serve as a volunteer assistant during Ohio State's run to the 2017 NCAA Division I national title.

Henchy also played on the USA Volleyball Men's Junior National Team in 2013-14.

Henchy graduated from Ohio State in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in communication, including an emphasis in strategic communication. He earned a master's in physical education during his time at Springfield.
