Li Chen is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach at American University after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. John’s from 2007 to 2011.

Chen has also been an assistant coach at Villanova and a volunteer assistant at Temple. He was an assistant for the Chinese Women’s National Team in 1989 and 1993, where the team earned third place at the 1989 World Cup and second at the 1993 World Grand Prix.

He played volleyball at the collegiate level for the Shanghai University of Sport as the setter and right side hitter. He also served as team captain.

Chen graduated from the Shangai University of Sport in 1982 with a degree in physical education.
