American University Announces Change in Women's Basketball Leadership (March 9, 2025)

Head Coach Tiffany Coll will enter her third season at the helm of the American University women’s basketball program in the fall of 2024. Coll was named the 14th head coach in AU Women's Basketball history on June 7, 2022, after nine years with the program, including four as associate head coach.

A vital member of the most successful staff in program history, Coll helped lead the Eagles to an overall record of 160-106 (.602), including 105-48 (.686) in the Patriot League. Among those victories were the program's only three Patriot League Championship titles, three regular-season PL titles, and five 22+ win seasons. She also helped guide the program to its only three NCAA Tournament appearances along with two WNIT berths all before she was named head coach.

As head coach, Coll earned her first win over her alma mater, UMBC on December 18. She amassed a 9-22 (.290) overall record and a 7-11 (.389) record in the Patriot League. The Eagles made a push into the Patriot League quarterfinals, falling to eventual champions, Holy Cross (3/6). Under her guidance, two members of the Eagles squad were named to All-League teams, junior Emily Johns to the Second Team and junior Ivy Bales to the All-Defensive Team and senior Lauren Stack was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, the first Eagle to do so since the 2018 season.

Coll was crucial in the development of one of the program's top players in recent years with Cecily Carl. Carl graduated in 2019 as a Patriot League Player of the Year, PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and one of only three players in program history to register over 100 blocks, 500 rebounds, and 1,000 points during her career.

With her on staff, the American developed some of the best players to ever wear the AU uniform, including five Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year, four PL Players of the Year, two NCAA Woman of the Year nominees, an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. She also helped mentor 30 All-Patriot League selections and nine Academic All-League honorees.

Prior to her arrival at AU, Coll spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Towson. While at Towson, she helped to aid in the development of two All-CAA honorees and oversaw their academic performances, seeing marked improvements during her time with the Tigers.

Coll previously served as an assistant coach at Lehigh, helping guide the Mountain Hawks to three 20-win seasons, three Patriot League regular season titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Before joining Lehigh, she was an assistant coach at Navy for the 2007-08 season and was a graduate assistant coach at St. John’s for two seasons, helping the Red Storm to a top-25 ranking and 22-8 overall record in 2005-06.

Coll played basketball abroad in Portugal, Germany, Holland, and Wales after playing at the collegiate level for UMBC. She was a four-year member of the Retrievers’ squad and served on the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two seasons.

Coll graduated from UMBC in 2003 with a degree in issues and athletic administration and received her master’s degree in sociology from St. John’s in 2007.
