A DMV local, Capree Garner was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland and joined Tiffany Coll’s staff in August 2022. She will be entering her third year with the staff in the 2024-25 season.
Prior to coming to American, Garner gained experience coaching as the co-head coach of the JV basketball team at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School where she would formulate a weekly training regimen, analyze game footage, study opponents, and instruct the team on executing game strategies effectively. She also organized bonding activities and focused on cultivating an inclusive environment for all voices to be heard and valued.
During her time at Our Lady, she spearheaded organizing the 2022 Pink Game, promoting survivors and coordinating pink gear for the girl’s program, as well as designing social media graphics and online promotion of the event. Moreover, she also acted as the social media coordinator by providing content and graphic designs.
Since coming to American, Garner has acted as the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Advisor in addition to all her duties as director of basketball operations for the women’s team. Duties that include managing all aspects of the team’s travel arrangements, coordinating practice schedules for both home and away games, as well as organizing team meals. She is also the team’s liaison to all of the other departments in athletics and provides support for the coaching staff by assisting with film editing and scouting reports.
Garner also serves to maintain open communication with academic advisors and student-athletes and uphold adherence to both team and NCAA regulations by overseeing team managers and practice players, guaranteeing their compliance with established guidelines.
Garner attended Hartford Community College, getting her associate degree in 2014 in general studies before attending UMBC and earning her Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication Studies in 2016.
As a player, while at Hartford, she was the women’s basketball team captain and MVP, was a Junior College All-American first team selection, Player of the Year finalist, and Maryland Junior College all-time leader in points (1497). While at UMBC, Garner served as team captain and was the team MVP and an America East second-team honoree in 2015. She scored 513 points during the 2014-15 season.
