Keith Byrd joined the men’s basketball staff at American prior to the 2023-24 season, and serves as the Chief of Administrative Staff.
For more than 20 years he has served as a basketball coach for student athletes of all ages. He has been successful in coaching young men who have been College All-Americans, All-Academic All-Americans and the National Player of the Year.
In less than 5 years as the head coach at Montgomery College, he and his staff successfully won over 100 games, the fastest in the college's history to meet this accomplishment. During his career, he has received several Coach of the Year honors, NJCAA (District 7), and Conference Coach of the Year.
Byrd also served as the College-Wide Athletic Coordinator at Montgomery College, where he led the task-force committees for the college wide camp and clinics initiatives. He also co-chaired the task-force committee for Divisional Changes from Division III to Division II in the areas of Public Relations, Compliance, Title IX, and Scholarships.
In addition, Byrd has provided instructional camps and clinics for Nike Basketball Camps.
Byrd and his wife, Maria, reside in Maryland with their daughter, Mariah, and son Keith Jr. He graduated from the University of Maryland and has completed master’s degree courses in Sports Management at American University and West Virginia University.
