Melissa Katz begins her second season as an assistant coach on Head Coach Steve Jennings’ coaching staff.

Katz works primarily with the goalkeepers. Katz’s other duties will also include recruiting, film breakdown and exchange and travel logistics.

In January 2012, she received her U.S. Field Hockey Association Level II Coaching Certification.

Katz also trained and competed in the 2012 High Performance Championships for the Mid-Atlantic Region, which was  coached by American Head Coach Steve Jennings. The event is the only one where players are selected for both the developmental and Olympic teams.

Katz was a four-year letterwinner at Monmouth University where she started 60 games in the cage. As a senior she was named Second Team All-NEC and to the NEC All-Tournament Team after registering a 1.38 gaa and helping the Hawks to the conference championship match. She finished her senior campaign with a 15-5 overall record including six shutouts and was named Monmouth’s Female Athlete of the Year. The Hawks’ 15 wins in 2010 marked the most in program history.

Katz was a member of the 2010 New Jersey Senior High Performance Team and played for one of the top level clubs in Ireland in the spring of 2011, serving as both player and coach for Railway Union FHC.

She graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design and a bachelor of arts in photography.
