Men's Soccer Battles Through Heat for 0-0 Draw With Delaware

WASHINGTON - The American University men's soccer team played Delaware to a scoreless draw on a 95-degree Tuesday afternoon, staving off 12 shots and 10 corner kick opportunities from the Blue Hens and nearly breaking through in the second half on a chance from freshman Henrick Boahen. AU moves to 0-2-2 on the season after picking up its second clean sheet.

How it Happened

Delaware was on the front foot in the first half, taking 12 shots to just one from AU.
The Blue Hens' best chance of the half came in the 27^th minute, as Freddy Jeffreys got free for a header in the box that was calmly corralled by Tubbs.
The visitors generated five corner kicks in the half, including three in a row in one trip into AU's third.
The Eagles worked to penetrate Delaware's defense in the second half, and found success early on.
In the opening minute, Oliver Snowdon caused a turnover in the attacking third and found Boahen at the top of the box. The freshman from Ghana took a touch to his left foot and fired a shot that was blocked, with the rebound falling right to him. On the second opportunity, Boehen squared a right-footed strike that forced a diving save on the left side of the frame from Eric Widrick.
Just minutes later, Patryk Rojek forced another diving stop from Widrick after getting loose in transition, but he was whistled offside.
The Eagles did well to deny a late push from Delaware. The Blue Hens took five shots in the final 20 minutes, two of which were blocked and one that forced Tubbs' best save of the day.
In the 73rd minute, Liam Penny took a directed a feed from German Argueta toward goal. The ball took a deflection off of Snowdon, forcing Tubbs to stretch his hands out to make a diving save as the ball changed directions.
