American University Names Cassie Kosiba Deputy Athletics Director and SWA

WASHINGTON – American University Director of Athletics and Recreation JM Caparro has announced the hiring of Cassie Kosiba as Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). Kosiba joins the Eagles after serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator at South Dakota Mines.

"We are pleased to welcome Cassie as our new Deputy Athletic Director," said Caparro. "With more than 23 years of experience in collegiate athletics, she has established herself as a collaborative and respected leader with a comprehensive understanding of intercollegiate athletics administration. Her expertise spans athletic operations, NCAA compliance, strategic planning, Title IX and student-athlete success, positioning her to make an immediate impact on our department. Cassie's leadership, commitment to excellence and ability to foster strong relationships across campus will be invaluable as we continue to advance our athletics program and enhance the student-athlete experience."

Kosiba comes to American after seven years at South Dakota Mines, where she served as the SWA throughout her tenure. She joined the department in 2019 as Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations before being promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2023. In addition to overseeing athletic operations, NCAA compliance, Title IX initiatives, strategic planning and sport administration, Kosiba also served a stint as Interim Director of Athletics in 2024.

Prior to joining South Dakota Mines, Kosiba spent nine seasons as the head women's basketball coach at her alma mater, Carleton College, after serving as an assistant coach at Long Island University, Manhattan University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

A former student-athlete at both Carleton College and the United States Air Force Academy, Kosiba earned a bachelor's degree in women's and gender studies from Carleton in 2003 before completing a master's degree in educational leadership with an emphasis in higher education at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2013.
