Series History
  • AU is 12-8-6 against Holy Cross all-time, most recently defeating the Crusaders in Worcester last year 2-1.

What to Know About American: 4-6-5 (4-1-2)
  • American is in the midst of a four-match undefeated streak, most recently coming back from two goals down to draw Lafayette at home. Timely scoring has been a theme for the Eagles along the stretch, as they've scored in the final 10 minutes of each of the last three contests to earn results.
  • Down 2-0 against the Leopards with just over 18 minutes to play, Yuta Phoenix scored his first career goal to bring the Eagles within one. Then, Nicholas Beil won the ball off a corner kick in traffic and powered the game-tying goal to the top of the net with just 1:18 remaining. Finn O'Brien picked up assists on both goals, giving him a team-leading three on the year.
  • Before the comeback effort against Lafayette, AU defeated Army with two late goals that same week on Oct. 21. First, Beil put in his first of the year in the 80th minute, then Reyes Parra curled a long-distance strike into the bottom right corner nine minutes later to seal the victory.
  • The streak of late-game heroics began on Oct. 18, when Chris Sullivan scored in the 89th minute at BU to take down the first-place Terriers 1-0. The junior captain knocked a highlight-reel strike off the left post and in, marking his second game-winner of the year.
  • On the defensive side of the pitch, sophomore keeper Evan Tubbs has done his part to give his squad a chance late in matches. He's made 11 saves across the undefeated run, including a diving stop on the final play of the match against #15 West Virginia to preserve a tie. His 1.07 GAA is second in the Patriot League, with 51 saves that rank third.
  • Senior Ian Webb-Johnson and freshman Rohan Chivikula have anchored AU's back line that's allowed the second-least amount of goals in the PL with 16. The rookie Chivikula has made seven starts, and he's helped keep a clean sheet in the three matches that Webb-Johnson has missed or exited due to injury (at Colgate, at Army, and at BU).
What to Know About Holy Cross: 2-7-7 (1-3-3)
  • Holy Cross currently sits on the bottom half of the PL table in ninth place.
  • The Crusaders are coming off a 0-0 tie to Brown in non-conference play this Tuesday, Oct. 27, and fell to Colgate last Saturday in PL play.
  • Holy Cross's lone win in the conference was against Army on Oct. 17, 3-0. James Ferraro, Archie Hatcher, and Jack Fiedler all found the back of the net in what matched the Crusaders' highest-scoring performance of the season.
  • Leaking goals has been a problem for Holy Cross, as the Crusaders have conceded the second-most goals in the PL with 29.
  • The sophomore striker Hatcher is having an excellent season, with seven goals to his name along with two assists. The combination puts him at second in the PL in total points with 16.
  • The Crusaders have a promising young core, as Hatcher's classmate Fiedler follows behind him with three goals and two assists, and the freshman Jude Jakes-McKay has logged two goals and three assists on the year.
  • Holy Cross is led by Matt Brown in his third season with the program.
