WASHINGTON - Two Colgate goals in the opening seven minutes proved to be the difference as American University women's soccer fell 2-0 to the Raiders on Senior Day at Reeves Field. The Eagles put four shots on goal in the first half but were unable to cut into the early deficit.
How it Happened
- American goalkeeper Riley Molbury came out to meet the ball just over four minutes into the first half, but couldn't get a handle on it as Colgate's Regan Taylor got past her for an early goal.
- Just two minutes later, Jade Vieira received a great pass from Taylor and slotted it through the AU defense and past the outstretched hands of Molbury into the lower left corner, giving the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
- No goals were scored the rest of the way by either side, despite plenty of opportunities.
- Senior Lauren Sanders was aggressive all game long, giving herself three opportunities including a great shot with 24 minutes left in the half that was saved by Colgate goalkeeper Ella Poppinga.
- Poppinga finished with four first-half saves, including one on a great header by senior Bella Vozar on an AU corner with 28 minutes to go in the half.
- Senior Bella Miller also put a shot on goal for AU in the opening half, as did junior Nariah Goldman.
- With 20 minutes to go in a chaotic first half, Molbury saved a penalty kick from Colgate's Josie Tunney, diving right for the ball that stayed on the ground.
- The second half saw seven total shots for Colgate but just one for American. Molbury made one save to keep Colgate off the board in the period, but the Eagles were unable to give themselves a strong chance on offense.
