WASHINGTON – American University women's basketball grinded through the final minutes of regulation and through a single overtime period against visiting Colgate on Wednesday night to a 59-56 overtime win.
Charlotte Tuhy finished the night with 22 rebounds, putting the freshman at second all-time in a single game by an Eagle.

- After ending the first half with a double-double–13 rebounds, 10 points–Tuhy improved her stats and finished the night with 17 points and 22 rebounds. She had two assists, four steals, and a block. Tuhy's 22 rebounds had her just two behind Mary Klima's 24 rebounds, recorded back in 1998. She had over half of AU's 40 rebounds in the game.
- Madisyn Moore-Nicholson had another impressive outing, the sophomore with 16 points against the Raiders. She also registered two assists and two steals.
- Ella Meabon and Taye Matthews were in double digits for Colgate with their 20 and 17 points respectively. Matthews was on 8-for-13 shooting on the night. Madison Schiller led on the boards with 10.
- American did well scoring in the paint, tallying 32 points, but Colgate led with 40 points in the paint. The teams were near even in points off turnovers, Colgate with 15 and American with 16. American had nine bench points to Colgate's 19.
How it Happened
- It was another slow start in Bender for the Eagles, with neither squad scoring in the opening two and a half minutes. It was Tuhy who broke the stalemate with a layup at the 7:18 mark of the first period.
- Neither team broke into the double digits in the first period, AU leading 9-6 through one. Tuhy had already picked up seven boards.
- Midway through the second, the Eagles jumped out to a 24-16 lead with 4:16 to play before halftime thanks to a three pointer from Driscoll. That was followed by a three from Laura Nogues and a mid-range jumper from Moore-Nicholson that had American was holding an 11 point, 29-18 lead with two to go in the opening half.
- Moore-Nicholson led the Eagles in the second quarter with seven points, for 12 total in the first half, but it was Tuhy with a double-double through the first half, on 13 rebounds and 10 points. The freshman matched the rebounds of the entire Colgate team through the first 20 minutes.
- American was up 34-20 at the midway point.
- To open the second half, Colgate went on an 10-0 run, down just four to cut into American's lead, led by Meabon and Abbey Ferguson with four points apiece.
- The Raiders' full court pressure was causing trouble for the Eagles, unable to break the pressure in the opening three minutes of the third quarter. American held a 34-30 lead at the 6:40 mark of the third. The Raiders were 5-for-8 to open the second half while AU was 0-for-4.
- Through the first six minutes of the second half, American had only added one point to its tally with a free throw from Anna Rescifina.
- Colgate brought it to a one point game, down 35-34 with 3:46 to play in the third period, before a layup from Elizabeth Archer and a jumper from Moore-Nicholson pushed it to five points. The addition of a pair of free throws from Nogues had AU up 41-36 with ten to play for it all.
- Through three, Tuhy had 15 rebounds, matching her career high and putting her two back from joining the AU All-Time Top-10 list for most rebounds in a single game. Moore-Nicholson and Meabon were each on 14 points while Matthews and Tuhy each had 10.
- Colgate made is a single possession game with a Matthews layup with 7:46 to play, with AU up 43-41, but Tuhy sank a three pointer to extend the lead back to five. With 6:41 to go, Tuhy picked up her 17th rebound.
- It was a one point game, 48-47, with one minute to play. Rescifina was fouled on a layup but missed the free throw. Still, AU led by three, up 50-47 with 31.8 seconds to play for it all.
- In the final moments, Tuhy missed rebounds that would've pushed the Eagles into a two-possession lead, before Colgate tied it all up at 50-all with 5.8 seconds left to play in regulation, American with possession.
- The Raiders scored first in overtime and then forced an AU turnover, immediately going up 54-50 and then getting a steal, but a jump ball with possession to American would have Tuhy running to the basketball AU trailing for the first time all game 54-52 with three minutes to play.
- Nogues with a driving layup had it knotted again, 54-all with two minutes to go. A Driscoll jumper and a Tuhy layup put the Eagles up 58-56. A pivotal steal from Nogues with five seconds left and a foul on Driscoll had the sophomore going to the line, making it a three point 59-56 game at the end of overtime. The Eagles grinding to the OT, three-point win.

The Eagles squad is heading out on the road to play Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, Jan. 10, and will remain out when they face Navy in Annapolis on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
