Men's Basketball Heads to West Point for Sunday Afternoon Game at Army

Series History
  • This will be the 55th meeting between American and Army, with the Eagles leading 36-18.
  • Matt Rogers scored 20 points in a 71-68 home win last year, but a lead slipped away on the road as AU lost 76-69.
  • AU swept the season series in head coach Duane Simpkins' first season in 2023-24, winning 79-60 at home before using a big second half to win 73-51 at Army on Feb. 28.

  • The Eagles come into Sunday's came off an unusually long stretch of rest during Patriot League play, having not played since Monday when they beat first-place Navy, 65-51.
  • AU's win over the Mids snapped a two-game skid for the Eagles, and snapped an eight-game win streak for Navy. Junior Greg Jones scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Eagles, who held Navy to 22.5 points below its season average in an impressive defensive display.
  • The Eagles are just 1-6 on the road after a 64-62 win at BU on Jan. 3.
  • Seven players—Wyatt Nausadis, Madden Collins, Kade Sebastian, Greg Jones, Julen IturbeGeoff Sprouse, and Dean Hogans—have been leading scorers for AU so far this season.
  • AU currently has six players averaging 8.0 ppg or more, which no other AU team in the past 25 years can boast.
  • As a team, AU leads the Patriot League in free-throw percentage (.754), turnover margin (2.83), and steals (8.28 per game). The Eagles rank second in scoring (76.7 ppg) and scoring margin (4.2 ppg).
  • Sophomore Wyatt Nausadis ranks third in 3-point FG percentage at .438, and freshman Madden Collins is fifth with 1.5 steals per game.
  • American is forcing an average of 13.8 turnovers per game while committing just 11.0 per game. The Eagles' turnover margin of 2.83 leads the PL by more than two turnovers per game, and ranks 56th in NCAA Division I.
What to Know About Army
  • Army is looking to snap a four-game skid after an 85-72 loss at Holy Cross on Wednesday dropped the Black Knights to 1-4 in Patriot League play. Army, which had won six of seven before the losing streak to bounce back from a 1-6 start, has not won since an 85-78 overtime win at Lehigh on New Year's Eve. 
  • The Black Knights are 3-1 in overtime games this year, and have not won in regulation at home against a DI opponent yet this year.
  • Junior guard Ryan Curry leads the way for Army with 15.5 points per game, and his 5.1 assists a game rank second in the PL. Freshman guard Jackson Furman (11.6) and sophomore guard Jaxson Bell (11.1) are also putting up double figures, while junior forward Tate Laczkowski paces the squad with 5.7 rebounds a contest.
  • Kevin Kuwik is in his third season as head coach with a record of 34-49. In addition to a collegiate coaching career that dates back to 2000-01, Kuwik is a 10-year military veteran who earned a Bronze Star as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning an honorable discharge in 2006.
