BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Five American University wrestlers have a chance to finish in the top three in their weight class tomorrow, and six will place in the top eight on the podium.

Kaden Milheim,
Caleb Campos, and
Will Jarrell advanced through the consolation bracket and earned the right to wrestle on Day 2 of the 121st EIWA Championships.
Notable
- It was an exciting morning for the Eagles, with a major decision, back to back pins, and a technical fall sending four wrestlers to the quarterfinals.
- Bainey (125) won an 8-0 major decision over Morgan State's Julian Dawson, then Lopez (133) recorded the first pin of the tournament against Navy's Brendan Ferretti. Down 1-0 in the second period, Lopez kept Ferretti's shoulders on the mat after a takedown to lock up the pin at the 4:17 mark.
- Milheim (165) followed Lopez with a pin of his own, making quick work of Sacred Heart's Calvin Pineda in 1:50. Campos (174) was up next, and dominated his way to a tech fall against Nick Alvarez of Franklin and Marshall.
- All four wrestlers fell in the quarterfinals, but each took two wins in the consolation rounds.
- Bainey shined in the third period of his final two bouts, earning near fall points against Dylan Acevedo-Switzer (Hofstra) in what was a one-point match, then securing a takedown against Nick Treaster to turn a three-point lead into a six-point lead in the final seconds.
- Lopez added an exclamation point to his day when he made it a pin hat trick. He ended bouts at 3:48 against Chase Liardi (Hofstra) and at 4:39 against Braxton Fries-Appello (Sacred Heart).
- Milheim used two takedowns and four near fall points to cruise to an 11-6 victory over Josh Palmucci (Franklin & Marshall), then ended his night with a pin over Cooper Lockhart (Morgan State) at 6:46.
- Campos notched AU's fifth pin of the day when he kept Matt Waddell's (Hofstra) shoulders on the mat at the 5:50 mark, then he made the most of a first period take down to beat Rylan Rogers 4-1 in the consolation round of four. The win marked the second of the season for Campos over Rogers, pinning him in a dual meet on Jan. 31.
- Jack Nies had one of the highlights of the day for the Eagles, coming back from down five points in the third period to beat Joshua Greenwood (Morgan State) in the consolation round of eight. Trailing 9-4 with 1:04 remaining in the third period, Nies worked for an escape, takedown, and two near fall points to steal a victory. After losing in the opening round of 12, a loss would have ended the tournament for the redshirt senior.
- Nies came from behind again in the round of four against Felix Lettinni (Sacred Heart), using a takedown and three escapes to erase an early 3-0 deficit and win 6-5.
- Will Jarrell defeated Danny Church (Hofstra) 4-1, but fell to Logan Shephard in the consolation round of four. The graduate senior will compete for seventh place on the podium tomorow.
- Campos stands as the only Eagle with a chance to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, as four allocation spots have been given to the EIWA in the 174-pound weight class. With two wins tomorrow, Campos will punch his ticket to Philadelphia.
