HAMILTON, N.Y. - The American University lacrosse team used seven different goal scorers to stay within striking distance of Colgate after falling down by six goals in the first half, but the Eagles couldn't hold off a Raider attack that put 29 shots on goal. The 17-11 loss drops AU to 5-7 on the season, and 1-4 in Patriot League play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Alyssa Apuzzo, Kellie Linehan, Reagan Murdoch, and Maddy Spratt all scored two goals to lead the attacking effort for American. Becca Frank, Ashley Smith, and Peyton Coleman each added one.
- Coleman's goal was the first of the freshman's career, firing a shot into the top left corner of the net off a feed from Spratt in the fourth quarter.
- The Eagles were bested in the draw control circle 23 to nine, but won the ground ball battle 13 to eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles took the early lead on a goal from Becca Frank in the first quarter, but Colgate responded with four straight. After Apuzzo found the back of the net to stop the bleeding with five minutes remaining in the frame, Kait Henning and Aubrey McMahon added two more for the Raiders. It was 6-2 after one.
- Goals from Henning and Ella Bishara quickly made it 8-2 in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but Smith and Linehan brought the lead back down to four with back-to-back goals for AU.
- American's final goal of the half came on a player-up opportunity after Rayah Johnson intercepted a pass and drew a yellow card in transition. Apuzzo worked herself open on the following possession, firing a left-handed shot to the top of the cage to make it 10-5. Lucy Licata put in one more for the Raiders, making it 11-5 at the break.
- The Eagles had their best stretch of the day in the third quarter, headlined by a strong start that saw them cause three cards on Colgate in the first three minutes. Juliet Kuenzler drew an offensive foul that led to a goal from Reagan Murdoch, then Peyton Coleman drew a green card on the ensuring draw. Hegarty found Spratt off a free position chance on the next possession, narrowing the score to 11-7.
- AU continued to punch at the Colgate lead, but the Raiders didn't allow their advantage to shrink any smaller than four. Bishara, Lucy Lederman, and Henning matched goals from Spratt, Linehan, and Murdoch to make the score 14-10 going into the fourth.
- With the Eagles still within striking distance, Colgate quieted the AU offense in the fourth quarter. The goal from Coleman was the only one for American, and the Raiders put in three more on 10 shots.
