WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team fell 10-8 to Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon at Jacobs Complex, as a strong comeback by the Leopards erased an early Eagles lead. AU's first at home this season drops the team to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in Patriot League play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Maddy Spratt, Becca Frank, and Reagan Murdoch each scored two goals to lead the offensive effort for the Eagles, while Ashley Smith and Kellie Linehan added a goal apiece. Murdoch's two goals brought her to 100 career points, and gave her the team lead with 26 on the season.
- Deirdre Brown had a great day defensively, collecting a career-high three draw controls, causing two turnovers, and picking up a ground ball. One of her caused came when she drew a charge at midfield, beating Lafayette's Jordan Simeonsen to the spot and taking contact.
- Freshman Peyton Coleman also had a strong day in getting her team the ball, matching Brown's three draw controls with three of her own. Spratt and Murdoch added two more each.
- The teams were nearly dead even in every statistical category, but it was the slight edge to Lafayette that helped boost them past American. They put 17 shots on goal to AU's 15, led 12 to 11 in ground balls, 12 to 10 in draw controls, and had one less turnover.
- Caleigh Forti finished the game with seven saves, matching her counterpart Molly Terraciano.
