Lacrosse Falls at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Eagles fell behind early and could not find their way back into the game against the Holy Cross Crusaders, falling 20-3 on Saturday afternoon. The American University lacrosse team is now 5-5 on the season, and 1-2 in Patriot League play.

BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles fell down 3-0 in the first four minutes. Goals from Sally Zinser, Ella Kittredge, and Riley Peters got the Crusaders out to a commanding start.
  • Holy Cross won seven of the first eight draw controls, and poured in four more goals to make it 7-0 at the 5:42 mark.
  • AU got on the board with just over three minutes left in the first, as Becca Frank finished off a feed from Maddy Spratt. Darby Sherrod picked off a pass from Holy Cross's Tory Rider, wiping out a player-up opportunity for the Crusaders before Spratt and Frank made the connection on the other end.
  • The AU defense tightened up in the second quarter, allowing just one goal and forcing four turnovers. Annabelle Jackson and Kellie Linehan found the back of the net, making the score 9-3 at the half.
  • American couldn't contain a relentless offensive attack from Holy Cross in the second half, giving up seven goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth.
