Matt Rogers of American University men's basketball is one of 35 student-athletes selected by
CollegeInsider.com as a finalist for the
2024-25 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in college basketball.
The Lou Henson Award honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of
CollegeInsider.com. The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, Texas, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
Rogers, an All-Patriot League First Team selection for a second year in a row, leads AU and ranks fourth in the Patriot League with 17 points per game this season. He scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Eagles to a 74-52 victory over Navy as AU captured its fourth Patriot League Championship in program history. For his efforts in that win and throughout the tournament, Rogers was named Patriot League Tournament MVP.
With 59 three-pointers made this season, Rogers leads the team, and his three-point field-goal percentage of .399 is eighth in the Patriot League. Rogers has scored 1,849 points in his career at American, ranking sixth all-time in program history, while his 758 rebounds rank ninth. His career field-goal percentage of .554 is fourth all-time at AU, and his 136 games played are a program record.
Rogers and the Eagles await their NCAA Tournament opponent, and will find out on Sunday, March 16 at 6 p.m. during the NCAA Selection Show. All fans are invited to Bender Arena to join the team for a watch party and pep rally, with doors opening at 5:15 p.m.
