WASHINGTON - For a second time this season, sophomore
Greg Jones of American University men's basketball has been named the
Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week. Jones helped lead the Eagles to wins in their quarterfinal and semifinal games of the Patriot League Championship, sending AU to the title game for the first time in 10 years.
Jones led American with 17 points in a 71-69 win over Lafayette on March 9 in the quarterfinal round, htting three of four attempts from long range and also pulling down five rebounds. In the Eagles' 72-62 win over Colgate in the semifinals, Jones scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field including both of his three-point attempts. For the week, Jones was 3-for-3 at the line. He averaged a team-best 14 points per game and tied for the team lead with 4.5 rebounds per game in the two games combined.
With the victories, No. 2 seed AU improved to 21-12, its highest win total since 2010-11, and will now host No. 5Â seed Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a championship and NCAA Tournament berth on the line. For tickets, clickÂ
